Dr. Mark Chern is a modern Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM) practitioner who believes in an integrated approach to the treatment of medical conditions. “It cannot be that only one approach works. And the patient of today knows that.”
While his role is that of a TCM practitioner, his approach has always been one that recognizes the futility of operating within a silo. Dr. Mark prefers to work with other practitioners (including medical doctors, naturopaths, psychotherapists and manual therapists) to treat the individual condition within his/her unique situation.
His work spans a variety of conditions, including digestive and respiratory health, dermatological and autoimmune conditions, and his interest is in complex health conditions. He is the co-founder of the two Soma Clinics in Singapore.
Dr. Mark has a regular practice in TCM dermatology, specializing specifically in the area of Topical Steroid Withdrawal, which is treated in a client-centric manner using Chinese herbs and acupuncture, supported by naturopathy, and even lymphatic drainage when appropriate. He holds a PhD doctorate in Chinese Medicine, where his thesis was on the use of Chinese herbs to treat Steroid Dependent Eczema.
Dr. Mark also works regularly in the area of women’s reproductive health, fertility and pregnancy. He used to work at two natural birth clinics in Indonesia — vision-focused Rumah Sehat Madani as well as the award-winning Bumi Sehat Bali. He was one of the speakers covering the Nanjing styles of herb formulation at the 2015 Integrated Fertility Symposium in Vancouver, Canada. Mark was trained at the Nanjing University of Chinese Medicine (NJUCM) and various hospitals in China, including the Jiangsu State Hospital of Chinese Medicine, Qin Huai Hospital of Chinese Medicine and the Jiangsu People’s Hospital where his training included using TCM in conjunction with western fertility treatments.
Mark is available for speaking engagements, workshops and lectures. He used to conduct educational programs twice a year in China for the Oregon College of Chinese Medicine and the American Board of Oriental Reproductive Medicine in China and has stopped doing so since 2016 due to clinic load — click on Education in the Menu to find out more.
While Mark works with Traditional Chinese Medicine, he also places importance on lab tests and imaging technology, ensuring a complete solution for his patients. For those interested in making an appointment, please fill out and submit the ‘Appointment Booking’ form.
